Artist Statement

My name is Thamsanqa Miya, and I am a mixed visual artist. My primary medium of expression is charcoal, although I am also proficient in using acrylic paints on both Fabriano paper and canvas. Through my artwork, I aim to explore the complexities of human emotions, the beauty of the natural world, and the interconnectedness of life. Charcoal allows me to capture the rawness and depth of emotions, while acrylic paints enable me to infuse vibrant colors and textures into my compositions. Inspired by the diverse landscapes and cultures of my surroundings, I strive to create pieces that resonate with viewers on a personal and universal level. Each stroke of charcoal or
brush of paint is a deliberate expression of my innermost thoughts and reflections, inviting viewers to embark on a journey of introspection and discovery. In my artistic practice, I am constantly experimenting with techniques and materials, pushing the boundaries of traditional mediums to create innovative and thought-provoking works of art. Whether it’s a poignant portrait, a dynamic landscape, or an abstract exploration of form and color, my goal is to evoke emotion, spark dialogue, and inspire a deeper appreciation for the beauty that surrounds us.
